What’s Good in the Music Scene? #9 – Barrett and Doll (The Ultimate Bearhug)

Q1: When did you both first start playing music?

Doll has been singing since she was a child. Barrett started playing when he was 17. We both met and began playing together in the Summer of 2012.

Q2: What’s the meaning behind The Ultimate Bearhug?

It can only be found in the lost pages of the Kama Sutra.

Q3: Where does the inspiration come from behind your music?

It comes from everywhere. As it should, art imitates life. The album we released was most inspired by love, but in a very new way.

Q4: What bands influence your style?

Bands? or artists in general? We love Van Morrison, Jesca Hoop, Jolie Holland, Billie Holiday, Rufus Wainwright, Sam Cooke, Dr. Dog. We love good music, and those that make it 🙂

Q5: How would you describe your music to someone who hasn’t heard it before?

People have said it sounds like an indie Billie style, or an indie folk-pop spin on a jazzier sound.

Q6: Are there plans for some live dates in support of the new album?

We just had our album release last Saturday at Hotel Cafe and hope to continue promoting our latest work. Some dates for the future are definitely in the works. Stay tuned on our website!

Q7: What message are you trying to convey through your music?

Patient songwriting, and telling stories. Relating experiences. And trying to seduce dozens of people when we’re onstage.

Q8: What are the plans for the future of The Ultimate Bearhug?
